Artist Talks
Artist Talks are part of Hillyer’s ongoing program offerings that occur on a monthly basis in conjunction with its featured solo artist exhibitions.

Weaving demonstration by Diego Borgsdorf Fuenzalida and Kayla Dantz

Saturday, April 5, 2025, 1 pm
Free to the public (a donation of $10 is suggested)

Kayla Dantz will deliver a workshop/demonstration of her photographic weaving style and Diego Borgsdorf Fuenzalida will demonstrate weaving by using his large Chilean style frame loom. Participants will be able to join in the weaving process itself and contribute to a collective woven work serving as a textile “guest book.” This program is organized in conjunction with Soft Archives: Threads and Textures of History, curated by Arianne Ohara.


Performance and Artist Talk by Hyunsuk Erikson

Second Saturday, April 12, 2025, 1pm
Free to the public (a donation of $10 is suggested)

In conjunction with her installation titled Thinggy of Their Town, Hyunsuk Erickson will give a performance inspired by “Thingumabobs,” standing forms she incorporates in her installation. The performance will be followed by an artist talk and Q and A from the audience.

This program coicides with our monthly “Second Saturday.”


Artist Talk with Jeffrey Berg

Third Thursday, April 17, 6:15 pm
Free to the public (a donation of $10 is suggested)

Solo artist Jeffrey Berg will lead an artist talk about his exhibition Bearing Witness, which bears witness to the lives of people crossing borders in an effort to seek escape from hardship and trauma.

This program coicides with our monthly “Third Thursday.” On every third Thursday of the month, Hillyer is open for extended hours between 5 and 8 p.m. During this time, visitors can view our current exhibitions and/or participate in public programs and events. You can also enjoy Third Thursday at The Studio Gallery, The Phillips Collection, Washington Studio School, ADA Art Gallery, and The Korean Cultural Center.


Online Discussion with Artists Hùng Lê and lyra purugganan

Zoom, Saturday, April 19, 2025, 1pm

Hùng Lê and lyra purugganan will reflect on their use of critical materials and investigations of trans-Pacific memory and American political violence in Asia. This program is organized in conjunction with Soft Archives: Threads and Textures of History, curated by Arianne Ohara.

Artist Talk with Artemis Herber & Special Performance by Zoie Lafis

Saturday, March 15, 1 p.m.

Join Hillyer’s featured solo artist, Artemis Herber, for an engaging discussion on her exhibition, Danger Zones: Beyond the Past. Herber will address how her immersive installation examines the intersection of power, memory, and time in shaping the future of our shared planet.

As part of this event, Zoie Lafis will present a short performance inspired by Herber’s sculpture Mnemosyne, drawing from Greek antiquity. This special collaboration between Zoie and Artemis adds a dynamic and meaningful extension to Herber’s exhibition, enriching the dialogue on history, memory, and artistic expression.

Free to the public (a donation of $10 is suggested). Reservations are not required.

On Saturday, February 22, join us for our ongoing series of artist talks as we featured Ghanian solo artist Teddy Osei, who will talk about his exhibition Duality. Osei’s exhibition provides a thoughtful examination of the intersection between traditional Ghanaian art forms and Western contemporary practices. 


Artist Talk with Kate Fleming

Saturday, January 25, 1 p.m.

Featured solo artist Kate Fleming will guide visitors through her multisensory exhibition titled AUGUST, which features paintings, sculptural works, and sounds that transport the visitor to another time of year and another time of life.
