Volunteer Opportunities

Volunteers are integral to making Hillyer a success. In addition to their time, volunteers contribute unique skills, experiences and curiosity, helping to create a welcoming environment for patrons, artists, and supporters. In exchange, volunteers find community, share and gain knowledge and skills that are essential to the promotion of Hillyer’s exhibitions, events, and programs. Below is a list of opportunities that are available.

Visitor Services

Volunteers greet the public, direct visitors, and answer questions about current exhibitions, events, memberships, and featured artists.

Staff Assistance

Volunteers support the ongoing activities of IA&A at Hillyer, assisting staff with behind-the-scenes office or event projects.

First Friday and Third Thursday

Volunteers assist with monthly opening receptions for featured artists, and events and programs held on the third Thursday of every month between 6 and 8 p.m.

Event Rentals

Held mostly during hours when the gallery is closed, volunteers assist staff and clients who rent our facility for business meetings, weddings and birthday parties.

Classes and Workshops

To enhance the visitors’ knowledge and experience, volunteers assist with classes and workshops, which include class check in, registration, set up and assistance with materials used by participants. Classes are generally offered during weekend and evening hours.

Membership and Patron Cultivation

To maintain membership and patron cultivation, volunteers assist with special project, VIP member events, member drives, and recruitment.
