IA&A at Hillyer is a unique contemporary art venue located in the artistic and internationally chic Dupont Circle neighborhood of Washington, DC. This renovated historic carriage house gallery hosts receptions, meetings and other social, corporate and non-profit events of up to 150 people standing or 75 people seated dining-style.
The space features high ceilings, clean white walls and hardwood floors. The layout, two larger rooms and one smaller room, allows for flexibility of use. The gallery presents a dual series of international and local contemporary art exhibitions providing an exceptional backdrop for events.
The gallery is a perfect intimate venue for all kinds of parties and events. In the past Hillyer has hosted wedding ceremonies and receptions, birthday parties, corporate events, seminars, lectures, holiday office parties and non-profit fundraisers. No matter your event, Hillyer can provide a great backdrop for your celebration or gathering.
Surrounded by embassies and just steps away the Phillips Collection, Cosmos Club, and numerous other art galleries, Hillyer is a prime location for local guests and visitors to the nation’s capital. The venue is easily accessible by public transportation from virtually anywhere in DC. The closest Metro, Dupont Circle, is less than two blocks away. Hillyer is a convenient and colorful special events space and has gained recognition for its own well-publicized and well-attended exhibition openings and DC “happenings.”

Fees and Policies
- Monday – Wednesday: $1,000 for five hours, $200 for each additional hour
- Thursday + Sunday: $1,500 for five hours, $300 for each additional hour
- Friday + Saturday: $2,000 for five hours, $400 for each additional hour
- 501(c)(3) organizations receive a 20% discount on total rental fees
- If Hillyer has to close early to the public, there are additional fees: $150/hour for Thursday-Sunday; and $75/ hour for Monday – Wednesday
Fees include the presence of one Hillyer staff member present from setup to close to answer questions about current exhibitions and provide security for the artwork and facility.
A non-refundable half (50%) of the rental fee along with a $500 security deposit is due at the signing of the contract, with the remainder paid one week prior to the event, under penalty of cancellation.
Is there parking availability for the venue?
There is street parking and paid garage parking locally. The gallery does not provide parking.

Once purchased, parking is 100% guaranteed even if the location otherwise fills up, often at exclusive discounts. Simply present your purchase confirmation at the selected location and this will serve as your payment with no additional payments or fees ever.
Inventory is limited and lots will fill up, so it is strongly recommended that you purchase parking passes for Hillyer in advance, if driving.
Is the venue accessible by public transportation?
Yes. The closest Metro station is Dupont Circle. The Dupont Circe North Q Street exit is less than two blocks from Hillyer.
Are there food preparation facilities at the venue?
Hillyer offers a small kitchenette area with a microwave and refrigerator/freezer. Food must be prepared offsite and brought to the venue by a licensed caterer, and must be approved by Hillyer’s Event Coordinator.
Is Hillyer Accessible?
Yes, Hillyer’s main entrance is ramp accessible and we also have one accessible bathroom.
Is it possible to bring in outside art or decoration for the event?
The gallery will not remove its current exhibitions under any circumstances and outside art or decoration is not permitted on the walls.
