The Life Drawing series is an independent figure drawing class that allows students to work from a nude model in your choice of mediums. While skill level is varied, there is no immediate instruction allowing each student to practice their drawing skills at their own pace. The Life Drawing series at IA&A at Hillyer is the perfect opportunity to practice your skills and independently work with access to a live model.
While easels, chairs and artistic ambiance are provided by Hillyer, artists are required to bring their own drawing materials. Space will be limited to 30 attendees. Walk-ins are welcome to join if there are seats available.
Interested in modeling? Contact Paul Pietsch at email@example.com . We are grateful to Paul for his volunteer support of our life drawing series.
Cyanotype + Handmade Stencil Workshop with Katherine Akey
Saturday, November 18, 9am-12pm
Tickets: $22 for Members/ $30 for Non-Members
Celebrate FotoWeekDC and learn about the cyanotype process with DC-based artist Katherine Akey. Join us for bagels and coffee while Akey discusses her influences, her trip to the Arctic Circle, and how these have come together to inform her practice. Following her talk, Akey will lead a workshop on cyanotype prints using handmade stencils.
Cyanotype is a method of photographic printing developed in the mid-1800s that produces a cyan-blue print. Originally used to reproduce notes or blueprints, the process was quickly adapted to print silhouettes of objects and stencils. Akey will discuss her interest and adaption of cyanotypes, and instruct participants on how to cut and make handmade stencils and use these to create cyanotype prints. All materials will be provided.
